Bleeding power steering
Bleeding power steering
Hey guys,i just had to replace my power steering pump on my 93 explorer and im not exactly sure on how to bleed the air out of it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
Easiest way is to get the wheels off the ground, start it up, make sure it has fluid in it, and start turning the steering full right, full left, full right..... etc. Do this for a couple of minutes and you should be fine.
On the initial fill up of fluid it might foam the fluid a little and the steering may feel rough even once you are done. After a day or 2 to bubbles will disapate and the steering will return to normal.
Since you have replaced the pump, there may be some debri from the old pump. Run a quart of fluid thru the pump and rack(engine off) with the cooler disconnected to rid it of the left over crud. The bits and pieces can ruin the rack seals so it is important that you flust it out.
