Yeah, that's what I did when I flushed mine, but he's wanting to know how to get air out. I guess that would also get the air out, but if don't want to change it out, wouldn't driving it purge the air in a short while?
So I had to replace it recently (under AZ lifetime warranty) and never really got all the air out of the system.

Drive it, keep check on the level and it will be out shortly. Of couse you know that you need to use ATF and not powersteering fluid.
I just replaced mine while repairing the oil cooler and disconnected the return at the pump and put the end into a small catch pan.
I could see the air bubbles coming out as I moved the steering wheel to both sides and worked the brakes.
My system seems to be working fine right now.

Use the factory tool for bleeding p/s systems.Power Steering Evacuation Cap - 211-265 . I have made one of these out of a rubber ball with a 1/4" steel brake line through the center of it. Apply a vacuum pump to the 1/4" tube, place the rubber ball over the p/s reservoir, start the truck, apply vacuum, turn steering wheel lock to lock. All of the air will be sucked to the top of the reservoir. After a few minutes, all air will be gone. The p/s pump will make a lot of noise while under vacuum but, it will quiet down when you release the vacuum. The homemade bleeder can be made for less than $2.00 & will last for years.

I don't know. It is about the size of a tennis ball & it is solid. It is like a giant "superball". I think it came from the toy dept. at K-mart.
This might work too:
