Hello Guys,
I'm reading the threads for a couples of hours now.... I just can't sleep anymore, too exited! Yesterday night I went to my Ford dealer and got myself a brand new F150 SuperCab 4X4 5.4 Toreador Red to replace my '99 F250. The 250 had a PSD but we couldn't really figure out the problem it had. Ford was talking about rehauling the whole motor.
So I got fed up and give a shot to the smaler on
It should arrive tomorrow.
I just hope it will tow my 28 foot, 8000 pds 5th wheel as good as the 250 did.
I would be concerned about the F150 rear axle holding up if you do a lot of towing with that kind of load. Horsepower is one thing, cooling is as important, but load can eventually cause problems. Really depends on the amount of travel though. If you only pull the trailer a few hundred miles a year you should be O.K.

There should be only 1200 pounds on the axle since it is a 5th wheel. I also made sure to take the tow kit witch would suppose to allow us to tow up to 9200 pounds...
Anyway, it is almost a done deal now and I will let you guys know how I like it.
Please also keep in mind that my F250 had 2 bad cyls so it was lacking power...
Will that Fiver mount clear the high bed sides? Love these trucks, but that is one deep bed.
Best of luck with your new truck
Chris
They make a special 5er thats 2" taller for the 1fiddys.
I think it will tow it fine, I would personally miss the torque of the PSD though. I tow a 18' car hauler thats 1700lbs with a Ranger 4x4 trail ****, all together about 6000lbs and I do not even feel it.
My truck is a 5.4L with the towing package and 3:55 gears. Trailer or not it seems to act the same.
When the new SDs come out in 07 with the 6.4L PSD I might get into one of those.
Thanks all for your comments!!
I upgraded the gears and got a 3:73 with anti slip, the bead is 6.5 feet. I still have a fiew inches of adjustement on the trailer's pin and if the bed is too deep I could have a spacer installed or buy the longer 5th wheel.
It is comming in tonight and I'm getting the electric break and the attach installed next wednesday, in almost a week.
Keep an eye on your exhaust pipe!! The factory muffler is very restrictive and more than likely the pipe in front of the muffler will turn blue within a week. I replaced the stock muffler with a flowmaster hushpower on my wifes 150 FX4. nothing fancy, no dules, just remove/replace the muffler. worth every penny.
