Hey guys... my brother just put a 6" suspension lift on his truck, everything went smooth but when he went to put his 35's on there they rubbed on the lower part of the front fender and on the front bumper..... so our next challenge is to get the body lift on there, how hard is it to do? Anyone ever done it? And if so could I get a breif walk through? Thanks ahead of time guys!
Not so hard, I did one on mine and love it. Look in my gallery by clicking on my name, I have pictures of all the major modifications. With the two of you it will probably take a weekend. I did the bed first even though it says do the cab first. The carriage bolts like to spin, so if you can weld nuts on top to get a wrench on them it will be much easier. Lift one side up (Not to heavy, I could lift my longbox with just my legs- weighed 160 at the time) and slip 2x4 chunks between the bed and rails, then lift the otherside and slide the blocks in. Then replace the 2x4's with blocks as well. New bolts, etc, you are done with the bed. body has the same procedure, only the body mount bushings tend to act like locknuts, so an impact is handy. the steering extension is easy, takes about tem minutes, and the radiator drop brackets are pretty straightforward as well. It took me about 30 or so hours all by myself, but i did half to cut all but one bed bolt, and had some rust issues to deal with too.
Oh yeah! that helps out a ton! I can't tell you how thankful I am..... my brother just got this lift installed and started backing it out of the driveway and the tires were rubbing pretty bad, right now hes managing to run around town with no bumper and is hittin the bumps slowly and is avoiding sharp turns.
Thanks again and if you have any other suggestions please let me know!
Ryan
i have a body lift too, you can check out my gallery. pretty simple to put on, but lifting the bumpers requires some frame working. overall pretty easy and cheap though.
I did a 3" body lift on my 92 f-150. I can fit 33x12.5r15s with no problems. Check out www.jcwhitney.com. They faxed me a set of instructions for the body lift at no charge before I decided to buy the lift. That way, you can decide if you would like to tackle the project.
