Would a K&N filter system, exhaust, not sure which kind and a programmer i can shift on the fly probably the new banks one be pretty safe mods. I dont run my truck hard. I just want the power if i needed it. But also i wanna keep my truck for a while. So are these mods that wont destroy my truck?
If I was starting from scratch, on a new truck under which to maintain warranty, I would install a set of gauges, a cat-back 4 inch exhaust system, and a 1704 Superchips Microtuner on either Economy or High Performance settings. You will not have a BIT of trouble out of any of that.
I would leave the intake alone, and I would stay away from fuel boxes of any kind.
Motorhaven can set you up with all of the items I listed above, and most likely for less than $1000 dollars. I would take a look at the 1704, Autometer gauges, and a Hog Cat-back exhaust system.
what he said....plus, if u want a little calmer shifting tuner maybe look at the predator.
also, water injection is the absolute safest thing u can do for a diesel. it will actually extend engine life, especially with a tuner and it feels like a shot of nitrous!!
hey thanks guys, ill have to look into that stuff, do yall know why my salesmen told me that an exhaust would void the warrenty? Also why should i stay away from the intake system PSD?
Cat-back exhaust won't touch the warranty; they will only use the converter and downpipe as a a cop-out on warranty claims.
As far as I'm concerned, there is no real reason in changing the air filter. The factory Donaldson flows 280 CFM's of air, which is plenty, even when mildly tuned, and Donaldson filtration is second to none.
Hey Matt....
Just curious about some of the reasons you would not run a fuel box if you were starting from scratch with a stock truck (obviously not yours!!). Is the DPS in your water injection Diesel Performance Shops? If not, what is it? By the way, thanks for the advice on the Excalibrator, it works so well with my Edge stuff, and I really love the way the trans. works now.
What you stated about the Excalibrator is the reason I would avoid a fuel box- they are death to your transmission. SCT is the only solution, and while it works great, I wouldn't drop the extra cash on a truck that I plan on driving every day, in a reliable fashion, when a good tuner will do both at the same time.
DPS is Diesel Performance Specialists, Inc. out of Saranac, Michigan. A good source for heavy-duty internal hardware and major components outside of what Motorhaven carries.
I use a Bully Dog Monitor and a Pup for performance. You can return every thing back to stock with no way to detect that a performance part has been added. I leave the monitor in the truck when getting serviced. I do disconnect it which just takes a couple of minutes. I like the monitor because I can see 2 pyros and the boost at all times. My 4th choice is the volt meter which was taken off my 04..I have 10 other choices of thing to watch if I want...If you use the Pup for performance you can can control the power addition up to the max you have selected while driving. You can also set a a high pyro # and the unit will pull out power when you reach it...Good Protection...Good Luck
