1985 6.9

I need help with my 6.9 before I go nuts and buy a cheby. I rebuilt the oil cooler on my truck put a few miles on it and it blew the oring out of the filter. Thank god I was standing there to shut it off. I thought it was just a crap filter and put another one on. Started it up let it sit there for 2 minutes checked for leaks not one drip. Jumped in it hit the gas and pop blew the oring out of the filter. Whats going on why is my truck doing this? Please don't let me go nuts and buy a cheby HELP!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like the relief valve is stuck closed. The oil-pump doesn't have a bypass on these motors. It's in the oil cooler. Usually they get stuck open and you lose oil pressure. Search a little about lost oil pressure and you might find some better infor than I can give you.

Yep, sounds like the relief valve is stuck shut. It's in the rear section that the filter screws on to. Maybe some junk got into it while it was apart?

What's the oil pressure going to?

Last I saw one blow on a FE it took about 130-150 psi of cold 20-50 and a hard rap on the throttle to blow. Guage buried at 140psi.
