two part problem with 95 ranger

I have a 95 ranger 4 wheel drive. The engine is the 2.3l 4 cyl, with double barrels. My first issue is that I cant seem to shake a check engine light. I have had the code run multiple times and it always comes back as p1443. I know it has something to do with the emissions, and have changed the evaporation canister, sensor and one other part inline with those 2. Any experience with this? My second issue is that my oil pressure gage ticks now. Sometimes it just drops real low and then comes back up. There is really no rhyme or reason as to when it happens. should I just replace the pump or is there a quick fix?

Thanks

GAS CAP!!! May sound stupid but i replaced the evaporator canister and purge valve just to find out it was something as simple and as stupid as the GAS CAP.

Your oil pressure problem could be a bad sending unit..or even possibly the wire on the sending unit is loose.

The oil pressure sending "switch" is probably responsible for your gauge problems. It's a cheap part, so try changing it out and see what happens.

Wow thanks guys I will replace the sending unit first and see if that is the issue. I will also try the gas cap. When I think about it, it kind of makes sense. A bad cap could cause a vacume leak.

Replace the cap with OEM, either from Ford or from a junkyard, make sure it's a Ford factory part.

Ok I found it. Now one last question and I will stop for a while. The factory sending unit looks nothing like the new one I bought. Is this an issue? I called the parts shop to make sure they gave me the right one. They said it is the correct one, and the threading should be the same. Is this something I should be concerned with?

Thanks for all your help and such a quick response

I'd take their word on it. Just check the threads and electrical connection before installing.

Can't help you on the switch without actually looking at it. Do a search online at Napa, RockAuto, Autozone, etc. and see of they have pictures which might help to confirm the correct part.

Hopefully someone with a 4-banger will come along and give you some more feedback.

There IS a difference..one is for the mechanical gauge on the dash and the other is for an idiot light. you have to specify if u have a idiot light or gauge. I've had this problem in getting a sending unit for one of my other trucks.
