Wally World Discontinued the Gallons of P.S. in Grey Jug
Our Wally World quit stocking the Power Service Diesel Fuel Additive "Cetane Boost" in the grey gallon jugs.. They still have it in the quarts so you can pay extra. They do stock the gallon size of the Power Service "anti gel" in the white jugs. I will have to see who sells the grey gallon jugs now.
If you bought the Mobile 1 you would get a 5qt container for $20, buying the Rotella-T you are getting a 4qt container for $13.50. To be honest, it's what you prefer to buy not the price you pay that is the difference. Since they don't sell the Rotella-T in quart size (at my location) you need to buy 4 containers. If you buy the Mobile 1 you buy 3. You will have oil left over, so do you want 2qts of Rotella or 1qt of Mobil?
I was able to get the Power Service at half price since they marked it down. I got like 4 jugs in the garage.
Don't know if this applies to Rottella or not, but not all synthetics are created equal. I am not a chemist, or Petrol Engineer, but this is what somebody said on another gonzoish type of bulletin board regarding synthetics:
"Depends on the brand. Crappy companies like Castrol misued the word synthetic to include oils that are hydrocracked from petroleum feedstocks. Others jumped on the bandwagon and these oils, known as group III oils are now labeled in this country as "synthetic" even though that's not allowed in other parts of the world.
Other companies like Exxon Mobil don't refer to Group III oils this way. Their "synthetics" are the real thing and use Group IV and Group V feedstocks in their formulations..."
I agree with your entire post- IMO There is a great deal of differences between the various "synthetic" oils.
FYI- On the www there is a group (spacebears) doing extended changes/oil life study with several different synthetics including analysis at 1,000 mile intervals... I have checked in for updates which is some interesting reading-
Check out Fte's own Oil and Lubrication forum, much valuable info to be had.
www.bobistheoilguy.com is a another good one if you can get past all of the amsoil hype.
I for one run Delo 400 CI+ 15-40 in my 7.3L, and it is prolly one of the best oils for the money. For you 6.0L guys, Mystic 10w30 and Rotella 10w30 would be good oils if you aren't excited about the price of synthetics.
Steve, Since you asked about synthetic oil... Oil weight: For starters, it seems there is quite a bit of agreement (FTE, FoMoCo, etc.) that the 6.0 runs good with a thinner weight oil. Some dealers recommend 10w30 year round instead of 15w40. With that said, many owners have found the 6.0 responds well to 5w40 synthetic- There are several brands available in this weight. I use Mobil1.
Why synthetic? IMO To obtain the operating benefits... Smoother starts & increased mpg which in my experience pays for itself. Since I switched to synthetic oil I go a longer distance between filling the tank and I believe that is a good thing
