inline six damper bolt.

ok guys heres the deal, im changing my timming cover and gears, ive got everything else out of the way to get to the cover, besides the damper, ive tried to loosen the the bolt, it wont budge, yes im loosening it in the right direction, ive got the engine in gear and the emergency brake on so the motor dont turn, ive heated the bolt so hot, that now i got a blister from touching it, on accident. the wrench im using is so long that there is enough leverage to start the motor(exaggerating)
any suggestions? respond soon because the truck is in the garage as i speak. thanks

If you position a breaker bar so that it is secured against the frame and just bump (quickly turn and release the key ) the starter , the bolt on the damper should break loose . The engine turns clockwise so position the bar so it will not turn with the engine . Once its loose turn the crank pulley by hand so that everything is lined back up at 0 deg Tdc , this will make reassembly easier . You'll probably need a pulley puller too , some of those things are very snug on the crank .

to late katt, but thanks anyway, i used pauls suggestion, it worked good, thanks, now im in it a little deeper, i got to removing the gears, i started to remove the cam gear, which is a fiber gear, instaed of the puller pulling the gear it broke the gear in half, leaving the gear hub on the camshaft, i dont feel very much up to trying to get that crap of my cam ,so im removing the whole cam and replaceing it with a comp cam out of jegs, ive already ordered. its probally worn anyway.for now my truck sits in thre yard with garbage bags over the front of the motor.

Katt ,
The impact wrench is the best , but the problem is getting the impact wrench and even a short socket on the bolt . The radiator is in the way . I have a couple impact wrenches and both were either too big or if they fit didnt have the power to break the bolt loose . The breaker bar method is safe as long as the bar is secured and no one is near the area when the starter is engaged as a precaution . Ive used that method on many vehicles . It only takes a brief touch of the key to break the bolt loose .

Motorcraftsman ,
You will need to remove the radiator to pull the cam . Does your truck have A/C ? I have never pulled a cam on a 300 in the vehicle so Im wondering if even removing the radiator will give you enough room ? Its a long cam so you may have to remove the A/C condensor and grill to give you enough room to slide the cam out straight .

my truck does not have ac but i did remove the radiator, the cam is out im im glad i am replacing it, the intake lobes on the 1 and 5 cylinders are severely worn, im replacing it with a power max crane cam from jegs, i ran into a slight problem though, the spacer between the cam and the gear got cracked during removal, its split to where it looks like a lock washer now, can i reuse it or should i replace it?
