Has anyone installed a roller camshaft in a block that originally came with a flat tappet cam? I would like to install a roller cam in my 89 F150. The engine is a 5.0 liter EFI converted to Mass Air. I am told by some that all blocks after 85 are machined to accept roller cams. Is this true? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think that all blocks after 85 are machined for a roller cam, I say this because of the retro-fit kits offered by Crane and Comp Cams.
From what I gather, the Comp Cams setup requires some machining to use stock type roller lifters.
I believe the Crane approach uses lifters with the tie bars at the top with no machining required tho the lifters are more expensive. I may be totally off base here and am open for corrections. This is the way it appears looking at my PAW catalog. I am interested in someday installing a roller cam in my 89 with the 351W, but price is holding me back right now. If you pursue this let me know how it turns out and what your performance gains are.
