Hey guys looking for a little help here. My van started stalling at idle. It will start up fine and usually idle for a few seconds. Then it gets rough and starts surging and eventually stalls. It always starts back up and once I get it into gear it runs fine. When I come to a stop, the problem comes back. Sometimes after running for a while it idles fine at stops but then suddenly stalls without warning. My daughter is competing in states for gymnastics on Sunday and I need the van to drive 3 hrs away. If anyone can help me troubleshoot this, that would be great. Thanks alot
Hey guys..just checking back in with the latest results. I took the van to Autozone and had them pull the codes from the service engine light. They told me I needed two O2 censors before the cc and 2 after. If there's a second O2 sensor after the CC someone please tell me where it's at. I was a bit puzzled by that one. They also told me I needed a new EGR valve. Did I ever say how much I hate working on this van????? Everything is packed in so tight. Actually the EGR valve wasn't too bad to get to after pulling the cowling off from inside the van. After dropping $300 at the zone and fixing what they told me I needed, NOTHING was better!
Once I had the van started I could hear some air flowing from the passenger side. I investigated the source of the air and found the PCV valve unplugged from the valve cover and oil dripping onto the manifold. I plugged in the PCV valve and the van ran perfect. What burns me up is that a few thousand miles ago I took the van in for a tune up and ask the tech to replace the PCV valve, plugs, and flush the cooling system. PCV valves don't work loose on their own. The tech must not have had it seated in the valve cover.
Oh well..the van is running fine. LXMan...thanks for the input. Lots of good stuff on this forum.
Sorry it cost ya $300 for a loose PCV valve. There are 4 O2 sensors on it. 2 are at the manifolds before the converters and there should be one on each pipe behind the second converter inline. They seldom fail. They just tell the PCM whether the converters are working or not.
Enjoy the forum. I don't like working on vans either.
