Ford 9"
Will a ford 9" 3rd member from an early model bronco(Small style 66-77) fit my 9" assembly in my 84 F-150, are they the same splines?
also it has 3.50(he sais) but didn't all fords come with 3.55's??
can someone please give me the years with the different spline counts??
28 or 31??

On the Ford 9" There were the 28 tooth splined carriers usually used in the 2WD vehicles and the 31 tooth splines used in the 4WD vehicles. But when they ran short on the assembly line the rear ends were put in whatever was being built at the time to keep the assembly line running. So the time of year of your vehicle denoted what tooth count you got. I have a 77 F150 4x4 that came with 3.73-1 gears in the rear and a 28 tooth spline count. Most of the trucks and Bronco's I looked at for a donor rear end were 3.50-1 or 4.10-1 with 31 tooth splines. I wound up replacing the carrier with a 31 tooth spline count and different axils. Runs great now. The internals of the rear end was a straight swap over.
