Well, I thought I had my mind made up to buy a complete 4" exhaust system from for $250. Then I seen a couple new posts about exhaust in the last couple days and now I think I have talked myself into piecing a 5" together instead. With the 5" pieces from airflow (4" to 5" adapter, 6 ft of tubing, 68 degree elbow) coming to about $110. Now I need a 4" downpipe. I thought I read someone bought one for $100 - $150. Just wanted to see where everyone was buying them cheap.
I bought a 4" Dynomax d/p from Four Wheel Parts for $150.00. Fit good, works good. I'll see if I can find the part number for you. EDIT found the part number Dynomax 53293

I am planning on dumping the exhaust out in front of the rear tire, like many have done. This makes things a lot simpler for the diy-er. Plus, I get the big 5 incher for under $300.
Ok, so ya put a 4 inch DP on and then an adapter to up the rest to 5 inches. Question is, will the 5 inch cause a further reduction of EGT over 4 inches all the way back. I'm talking a 4 inch like the Hog.
Yes, I too like the sound and looks of a five inch sewer pipe hanging out the side.
Dale at TYMAR has the 3''-4'' DP for the OBS for about 140 shipped. i'm not positive on the SD's, but i'm sure its around the same. i picked up the downpipe and likes it a lot. the 5'' should fit all the way back to the tire once you use the reducer. i'm running 4'' pipe to 5''stacks, and the 4'' has PLENTY of room. from what i understand also, i have never seen no rheard of a 5'' downpipe, just the 3-4 dale has. i don't think the EGT difference will be noticable between 4'' and 5''. only real difference i can see would be the cost of 5'' pipe versus 4'' pipe. i could be wrong though
I'm trying to decide on a down pipe for my 97 F350. Which one is best? I've read hypermax, tymar, bean. It's all too confusing. Right now I have a 4" ss kittyless system that tapers from 4 to 3.5 to 3 to mate OEM down pipe. Do I have to get a 3 down pipe or can I the 3 to 4 one that Dale sells? Would I have to cut off the reduced section of exhaust pipe to get to 4 to mate down pipe? Then what? The flange on exhaust won't mate the 4 down pipe will it?
