Grinding when DISENGAGING 4X4 LO?

Unhappy Grinding when DISENGAGING 4X4 LO?

My 93 351w E40D Bronc has push botton 4X4, yeah i know i'd rather have the manual T case too, but those are rare with the Eddie Bauer trim and 351. Anyway, mine works great, it engages very quickly on the first try everytime, and works seamlessly, but when i try to disengage 4 Lo, it grindes. I know you have to put the tranny in N, then disengage 4LO, and then disengage 4X4 in that order, so what gives? Anyone had this problem? Any help or suggestions appreciated.

If it makes a "CLUNK" noise, that is normal. Are you stopped and in neutral when you switch back and forth from 4hi to 4low?

put in reverse and go backwards a little then put into neutral and disengage 4lo

yeah i know to stop and put it into N and that you have to be in 4X4 HI first, next time I use it, i'll try going in reverse before i disengage 4LO. Thanks!

and you know not to use 4wd on dry pavement right!

just checking, you dont know how many people have done that and wonder why they are having issue later. might also be time for a fluid change in the tcase if its been awhile.
