Loose Spring Bolt/Corrosion
My 1982 F100 (300 Six, C6) had an alignment done in December 1999. It drives straight, true and very smooth. The only issue is every time I hit a low spot in the road, bump, or go over any inconsistent surface, there is a ringing coming from the left front wheel area. Well, tonight, after 8 months of racking what little brains I have and many hours under my truck looking, I found the source. The bolt holding the radius arm to the I-beam appears to be loose. I say this because the washer under the nut inside the spring is loose and is the source of the ringing. My question is, can I tighten this bolt without messing up the front end alignment?
The other question I have deals with corrosion in the rear wheel wells where the doubled panel meets the inside of the wheel well. This appears to be a magnet for small stones, dirt and moisture which, we all know, leads to corrosion. I'm sure we've all seen the Ford truck with the rusted out wheel wells showing through on the outside of the bed body. My question is, what is the best way to get ALL of the stones and dirt out of that area, and how do I keep it from collecting there?
