Smile Removing a few leaf springs lowers F350?

Hi there,
I am considering purchasing a 2002 F350 CrewCab PSD and I was wondering if the truck would actually get lower if I removed a leaf spring or two :-) The reason I am asking is that it might not fit in my garage if I can't get it lower by a few inches. I realize that I might lose some payload and towing capacity but the F350 already has way more then I would ever need. Any comments, silly or otherwise welcome

It will most likely have 4" block under the spring. You could swap them out with the factory 2" blocks from an F-250 and not lose a thing. It will probably also have B code rear springs which you could swap for the A code springs and minimize the loss of payload and towing capacity while setting it down another inch or so.

A local spring shop should have the blocks that you need, possibly even used ones for cheap. They are very easy to change out yourself too.

Thanks for the quick responses! An F250 would fit in my garage so making the simple changes you both suggested are just what I was hopping to hear :-).

You are 100% correct and why not, after all leaf springs are better off being on a truck then sitting around with no support

Not going with the F350

Thanks again for the replies I just wanted to let you know that I won't be going with the F350. It was a 7.3 PSD in case I didn't mention it and I have now tried a 6.0 PSD and I really like the extra power and the (OK some of you are going to make funny faces now) quiter engine.

You could also get a velvet shackle kit that uses a torsion setup for the rear shackle that will also drop it about 2 inches as well.

Having said, you can lower f350 with smaller f250 block, could I raise my f250 with larger blocks?? And can front be raised in a similar way?? Thanks Jeff

For the rear, yes the reverse is true.... However, You can not and must NEVER use a block to lift the front. Not even 1" is ok. Doing so puts extreme stress on the front springs when you make turns. Very dangerous idea. If you want to lift the front just a little, get a 3 inch spring hanger, otherwise get a true lift spring.

Where do you get a 3 inch hanger, is this the same as add a leaf for the front. Which will raise about 2 inches? Thanks Jeff

I think Fabtech makes the 3 inch hanger. Donahoe racing makes a 4.5 inch hanger as well. The difference between the hanger and the add a leaf is the hanger uses the stock springs, so the factory ride is retained, where the add a leaf will usually result in a slightly firmer ride.
