Do any of you guys change the brake fluid on your trucks? I remember reading somewhere that it should be changed every 2 years. I know I sure don't. I know brake fluid gets dirty and other contamination in it since it never stays clear or yellow colored. I guess the reason I never change it is because I the best way to change the fluid is to bleed the brakes through the bleeder screws. Whenever I mess with bleeder screws they usually snap off. I change the engine oil every 3 months/3000 miles, because I believe it keeps an engine running for a very long time. I guess i've just never thought about keeping clean fluid in the brake system. So what do you guys do for brake maintenance other than the normal stuff? Fred
Bleeders are fun like that. Use a 6 point socket, soak with PBblaster, Either tap on the wrench or trry woring it back and forth. A little heat (from a heat gun or a hair dryer in a pinch) goes a long way. They are cheap to replace and a little never seize will work wonders next time.
When you bleed them to clean fluid put a brick or equivalent under the pedal while you bleed. This will keep the piston in the used portion of the MC. Brake fluid (dot3) holds moisture. Moisture=corrosion. Corrosion=money Not to mention "Brake failure is not an option>"
