Did any of you guys running the 941 cam upgrade your timing chain/gears? If you did, what did you go to? Crane recommends upgrading but I also want to look at what's practical.
I run plain Seal Power roller chains in all my stuff. NO high dollar multi-index...blah, blah, blah chain.
I did run a stock type chain(with steel gears) in my one 390 with .53 lift cam. Not sure what specs the 941 is, but it survived fine.
Okay, sounds good. So if I were in a tight, the chain that comes in the rebuild kit will be fine. I plan on upgrading just a bit but I can't see spending $100 on a timing chain.
Yea, a Cloyes True Roller will set you back about 94 bucks from Summit. Then there is the Cloyes double roller Street set that is like 54 bucks. Look in Summit/ Jegs/ on E-bay at maddog racing. You should be able to pick up a good double roller timing set that comes with three different crank sproket notches for straight up timing, 4 degrees advance and 4 degrees retarded for anywhere in the neighborhood of 38 to 60 bucks.

Well as Mentioned..you can alway go with the Cloyes.....I have always considered a timing chain like the Oil Pump..cheap Insurance.... In my last 3 Builds, I have bought from Mad Dog ,from ebay.. the Rollmaster timing sets..
Which IMHO are freaking great!! I caught 2 of them on sale...I bought one for the 390 and one for the 433" and I believe they were $69 and $8 for shipping.... But like I said they were on sale...
If ya look at his site....usually within a week or soo..they go on sale... The Gears are billet Machined...Nitriate hardened, 9 keyway, and the Roller chain is made in Germany!! For a couple dollars more..I'll never go back to the standard chains.....JMHO!!!
