power steering

hello, i have just purchased my first truck. it is a 1986 F150 with the I6. It almost in mint shape. However it didnt come with a lot of options. It does not have power steering. i would like to convert it. i am wondering what exactly i need. also, when i was driving it home the other day after just buying it, i noticed it had a lot of front end play. first thing that i am going to do is replace the inner and outer tie rod ends. does this probably mean that the ball joints are gone? what else can i replace to help fix the problem? thanks for you help!

It would be a good idea to inspect all the steering linkage for wear . Its possible the ball joints are worn , but check them for wear before you replace them . Another place to look is the wheel bearings , Im sure it wouldnt hurt to clean & repack them with new grease . As for adding the power steering you ll need a Ps pump , Ps steering box , & a belt . Plus a few hrs to do the work . Have an alignment done once all the work is completed .
