Changed Battery cables, now no power

1986 F250 4x4, 460, C6

I bought this truck a month ago, and I'd known the battery cables were really bad. Well, I finally changed them, and moved my negative cable to a more accessible place, and now the headlights won't even come on unless a jumper box is hooked up. I had no problems before, other than the occasional hard start when warm, but that was because of severely corroded battery terminals. When changing the cables, I left the battery on the ground for close to an hour. Would this have anything to do with it? the battery is 5 years old, and had given me no previous problems.

All of my connections are clean and tight, I checked 4 times, just to make sure. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post.

if you are hooking up a battery charger and you have power, then reason tells me the battery is dead or almost dead, unless you have a bad connection on the terminal itself. leaving the battery on the ground wont hurt anything according to the battery companies

let us know

I would put this back where it belongs. And make sure there is not a smaller wire that you accidently didn't hook up over at the starter relay(the other end of the + cable).

all the smaller wires are hooked up and accounted for. The reason that I moved the negative cable was because I suspected it going bad, and it isn't the most fun thing in the world trying to get a wrench in behind the alternator, so I moved it to a bolt hole in the head. I ended up breaking the negative battery cable, and after having my battery tested and charged, it won't even hold 12.2 volts with out a load, and drops below 11 volts with a load. I'm replacing the battery with a refurbished, 800 CCA Interstate, and replacing the 4 guage negative cable with a more adequate '00' guage fleet battery cable. This should finally end my electrical nightmare of misery.
