Well its that time of year again and getting that itch for summer camping season. anyone do any camping?? im thinking going to white-river or Algonquin park. my wife dont want to tent anymore for a couple years now and she wants to rent a cabin again..there is nothing like the sound at night when the animals are roaming everywhere near our tent. one time a black bear was snorting my tent and i heard a loan wolf in the distance echoing in the night..and in the early morning catching small mouth bass and the odd trout..now thats camping.but my wife dont want to see more bear crap and racoons rob us blind again.
Anyways, I used to camp with my parents and 3 brothers when I was younger. Then there was a time when we would rent a houseboat near Kingston at the 1000 Islands.
Last year my wife and I went camping and it was not a fun experience. But, I would do it again if she wanted.
This summer I am planning a Getaway for our College and Career group at my church for some camping (with tents). It will be for a couple days at a campground about 40 minutes away. It should be fun.
But, overall I would just rather sleep in my own bed, or should I say my wife's.
we take the kids to the pinnery for a couple of weeks every year.they won't go near a porta potty, so there's no way i can go up north.i used to camp in killarney every year and loved it.this year the wife is having a baby in june, so i might get a week in july at a park.
Have not had many great camping experiences, but the ones that were good were great.
If you need facilities - try something like Emily Park campground - you can tent and you can trailer. Also has a beach area. Not too far from town.
If you want to be intown, I would reccommend Beavermead Park - it is right in the city and in the summer you can take in the Festival of Lights. If it is your first time camping and things are not going well, you can pack-up and head to one of the nearby accomodations.
Hope all have a fun summer. If anyone is heading to the Kawarthas and needs any pointers, drop me a line and I will see if I can help.
Cheers,
Hi there guys I have been a little busy with the house and all, but I strolled across this post and had to reply.....
My family is very big into camping, we go as often as we can (bout every 2 weeks). WE have a membership with ROD and AOR and we are members at Rock Glen Resort in Arkona (Beast you should know where that is just about 1/2 hour from you)
We were there last weekend, bit cold but what the he$$, and we are going back for the May 24.
You were camping last weekend? Are you crazy? You better believe it is cold! Wow! I will stick to my nice warm and comfortable bed for at least 1 or 2 more months.
Where I come from we call the May long weekend the 24 weekend if you know what I mean . Some people don't even get the door zipped up on the tent and wake up in the morning with frost on their sleeping bag. We deepfry a turky for supper and the occasional fish if we get ambishious. It looks good carving a turky on the tailgate of the truck in the middle of the wilderness. When me and my friends go for may long we Boldly go where no man has gone before - The final frontier , We stay away from people to avoid conflict and we party without interuption. Yes here comes another May Long. We have been doing this trip religiously for about 8 years now. We hope to keep the tradition going. The family outings are reserved for the hot summers. Cheers Gang
