Hi,
My brother recently gave me his 87 F250 PU. It's been sitting for about 4 years due to some melted wires from an overheating experience he had the last time he drove it. Come to find out a Freeze Plug had popped out. He shut the thing off immediately and had it towed home. Any way, some of the wires (insulation)that lie across the top of the motor had melted and I have since replaced/respliced them. I believe I have everything connected properly but when I turn the ignition switch to the first position I dont get any red dash lights and when I attempt to crank it over I ger nothing. Does anyone have an idea as to where I might want to start troubleshooting first ?
thx in advance, Tom
(btw, I did do the old "cross 2 screw drivers across the solonoid trick" and the motor cranks over)

Start by checking your fuses. IF they are all good, then check the fusible links on the wires that come off the battery and starter solenoid. Chances are one of them burnt when the wires shorted.
Thanks much for the fast replies. I should have known better to check fuses, but then again thats why we have smarter people than I that post here. I'll let you all know how I make out this eve. after I get home from work. thx again.
Okay...it was the IGN fuse. Now I'm not getting any fire. Any ideas as to how I can check the coil to see if its working other than have an extra body stand next to the engine while I crank it and look for a spark on a plug ?
thx in advance. Tom.
oh, and also...does anyone know where I can get a photo or diagram showing where the vaccuum lines from around the carburator go ? They were disconnected when I aquired the truck.
If the underhood sticker is gone, I suggest getting your hands on a repair manual, or searching the net. Seems to me one of the "parts marts" has repair info online but I don't remember which one.
It's not injected, but what engine? and auto/manual?
