What kind of headers are you looking for exactly? its true theres not a whole lot of options out there but i know for sure you can get some. go to any large local auto parts store and you can usually find two sets (most of the time the average or the quailty coating of the same style) that can be ordered in within a few days. i just helped a freind put a set on his 86. he got longtube headers for just over 100 bucks at an atuo parts store. the only thing...the rest of the exhaust will need modification. my friend ended up taking it into the shop to just have something fabricated. they ended up even needing to cut one of the headers short to keep the tubes from hitting the tranny linkage. basically just check an auto parts store, they usually have stuff that they can order in and if you dont mind getting a full exhaust job while youre at it, then that would work. i dont know whether or not mustang headers would work, im sure it all depends on what you get...theyre all different. the thing is though, that set that was "made" for my friends truck took ten hours to put in, so expect trouble if you end up trying to put in a set made for a mustang. good luck
For the best fit headers and high quality, find someone who deals with Doug Thorley headers. They fit perfect. You even have enough room to replace your starter without loosening your headers. They will cost in the $350 range (uncoated) but they work terrific. Also, use good quality gaskets or they will burn out. Doug Thorley has a thick, black gasket, ROL makes one of the best gaskets on the market, or if you must use one from your local auto parts store, then put two gaskets on each side.
