I have been battleing an idle problem on my 91f150 5.0 5speed for the last couple of months. the engine wants to idle around 1700 rpm. so first i cleaned the idle air bypass valve nothing happened .then i replaced it, again the same high idle. i have changed the o2 sensor , the thermostat , the air intake temp sensor, the coolant temp sensor, andstill it does the same thing.what is the problem could it be the throttle position sensor.
your help would be appreciated.
It’s so basic but you’d be surprised how many people don’t reset the computer after a repair by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. It makes all the difference in the world. If you’ve done it, disregard this, if not, give it a try!
Check for vacuum leaks . Also , Ive seen some throttle bodies that even after being cleaned would still stick the throttle plates open a little because sometimes its hard to clean carbon that builds up throttle plate shaft. Sometimes the best way to clean a throttle body is to remove it & clean .
You don't have to disconnect the battery to empty the computer's memory, simply run the codes and pull the test wire connection apart and this clears the codes without clearing the radio presets and clock.
