I have a 1986 f150 4x2. I would like to give the interior an update. I was wondering if anyone knows if the '92-'96 would fit into the cab of my truck. If not possibly the '87-'91? I would not have thought of this but i was saw an interior from an '88 mustang fit into a '79 or '80 granada with no modification in a magazine. any info is greatly appreicated
Yes, the interior from a 1990 to 1996 should fit without any problems. Make sure you take all the interior pieces that you want, example: pieces over the doors, rear corner trim at cab, rear wall trim pieces with wall carpet etc. Dont't try and mix the new pieces with some of your old pieces, as there are slight variations in size and shape which could cause problems.
If you are planning to change the color of the interior trim, make sure you degrease them thoughly and use a good epoxy primer. Good luck.
The 87 - 91 will fit, the 92 up may not. The door is different at the vent window, Though the doors interchange, you need to first make sure the door panel will not affect the vent window, the other factor in the 92 up is the way the door panel comes up over the front by the vent window. Other than that the seat and other panels should fit.
LAST EDITED ON 31-Aug-00 AT 11:29 AM (EST)[p]I found that the cab on a 98 F-700 (Service truck) has the same interior as my 82. The dash, and door panels are the same. I think the gauges were the new style, but fit in the old dash. At least there are still factory replacement pieces available.
The rear trim pieces that fit over the Seat belt retractor on the 92-96 models will not fit anything prior to those years. The top hole where the seat belt eye sits (above your shoulder) is moved higher on the 92-96 models. Trust me I found this out the hard way, I spent $50 on a set of 93 model panels, and had to take them back two days later and made a 100 mile round trip to do this.
