I purchased a 302 explorer long block from ford motorsports to install in my 86 f150 5.0 and would like to convert to the newer serpintine belt does anyone know if i can just replace the pulleys and add a tensioner or do I have to install new alt,ac,power steering etc.?thank you in advance for your help!
Geo- you will need at least a waterpump,on the serpent belt setup they spin the other way. Why not head on out to the salvage yard and get everything-brackets, pulleys, pump, tensioner, and p/s and alternator. You will be sure of the fit, and not have a problem of needing 'just one more piece'. Yes, you will have more stuff leftover, but your job will be easier if you do it this way. Have you ever tried to remove and change a p/s pulley? Trust me on this and get the complete setup at the salvage yard DF

I bought my 1 belt surp. system at the boneyard for $250 w/PS pump cause the guy didn't want to remove it. (1000mi later I found out why cause it went south) Anyway you're gonna have to go with an electric fuel pump, fuel pump safety switch mounted on the oil pressure thingamajig. I had to drill and tap mine. I would not have done it another way, haven't touched the belt or anything else in 8000mi. You will need a reverse rotation water pump, and fan w/clutch.
Good luck,
