Ok, you need an amp that can do a 2ohm load when bridged, but you won't be doing too bad if you do hook one speaker to each channel. Set the frequency to about 80 Hz and you should be able to turn the gain right up. The problem seems to be comming from it being bridged into 2 ohm mono. I used to run 4 Kenwood 10s bridged 2ohm per channel in stereo. On the same amp that I am now running the 1 Polk sub on. Which by the way will work fine for your amp if you have the DVC subs.
thanks for the post 351M i was wondering if a Infinty Reference 1030w would be louder than the two subs combined i have now i was thinking of just 1 12' Infinity which one would have higher SQ and SPL thanks
Well, I must, I have absolutly no distortion and it sounds great, I have helped with the setup and install in competition vehicles as well, go figure, A friend of mine has an 18" rockford 8ohm sub getting about 120 Watts and he hit 147 Db, I learned from him as well as a few installers, so If I'm stupid maybe you should have a talk with them. I would have to say that I have no experience with the Infinity subs, If you want Loud I would say Kicker but you will have to spend a bit extra. 1 8" or 1 10" Solobaric L7 would be about what you are looking for. Or even a pair of Kicker CVR 10s or 12s. Then just figure out what the RMS you need will be and make sure if you are going to bridge it, you have an amp that will be 2 ohm stable. But that kind of sound will definitly cost a bit more.
If there is anybody in the Oklahoma area, Stillwater Designs owns Kicker and they're having a tent sale May 14th in Stillwater where their prices are about 50% off and sometimes more. It's their scratch and dent sale, where everything has a warranty but with things that have been chromed, they might have a tiny knick or something like that. I bought my first sub at one of these (10" CVR) and paid $35, these were in Crutchfield for $120 at the time. I had to have the guy point out to me where the knick was and it took us 5 minutes to find it it ended up being on the magnet of the sub.
That sounds like a can't miss sale. I bought my Polk MOMO sub for 48 bucks at the Visions Electronics boxing day sale. I am seriously kicking myself for not getting 2 now that I know what they really cost.
Thats how I was with my CVR. I didn't know much about car audio then, and now I'm like why didn't I get the L7 for $100? Then again I didn't have any money. The day I went, a guy was there buying 6 12" L7's to but in his Explorer and I saw him like 3 months later at Cici's Pizza and was wanting to go up to him and ask if I could hear his system. Weird thing is.. I remembered what he looked like.
LOL, 6 L7s would be a tight fit in an explorer I'm thinking. As far as car audio goes, I know my stuff but I have a hard time explaining it, I prefer to just do the setup myself. The CVRs can really pound in the right box and with the right amp etc. But I guess they should being probly the best selling sub for Kicker and the one that put them on the map eh?
Yep they're not bad little subs, I have a couple Audiobahns right now in my truck instead of the Kicker. I'm saving up right now to buy Eclipse. I didn't sell the Kicker though, I have it in my room in a small sealed box, hooked up to an amp that's wired into my Kenwood surround sound system. It sounds a lot better than the 100 watt one they sent with the system that I paid $600 for. The trick with the CVR's is they have to be in the right box and you can't overpower them. It's like being in the wind with an umbrella, once the wind is too much for the umbrella, the umbrella just gives way like in the cartoons. I guess that could be a good example when trying to explain overpowering a sub couldn't it? lol
I did the same thing with 2 of my Kenwood 10s, I had them in my room on the sub out for my computer, hooked to a 25 x 2 Alpine amp and a old crossover. all was hooked to an old computer power supply. Which also makes me remember what happens to an amp when you try and hit hard with an underpowered amp or one that is way too small for the subs (or both). There was some neat noises as that puppy died.
