What is the name of the bracket that holds the
front of the leaf spring to the frame.
This would be just in front of the rear wheels.
I have a 1987 F150 extended cab and this bracket
rusted out and broke.
Also, can you get this part from Ford, or do
i have to go to a junkyard. Thanks.
As far as I know its called the front spring bracket , I dont think it has a specific name ? Its riveted to the frame so you will have to use 7/16 Grade 8 bolts , nuts & lock washers to secure the new bracket to the frame . You should be able to get one at Ford with no trouble . A junkyard one may be on its way to the same fate as yours is now .
I aggree with the previous post as it is called a spring hanger and the rear is a shackle. Make sure that before you install the new bracket you look at the bussing in the leaf spring. I have seen the center crack and cause problems later.
That bracket is called a spring bucket. Since the truck is a 150, it is coil sprung and the bracket holds the coil and the shock(s). I think this bracket can be bought at a dealer. A junk yard may have one as well. Be sure to use grade 8 bolts, and make sure it is the same as the original before installing.
These brackets seem to be very prone to rust, they must be made out of recycled '74 Chevy pickup bodies. Mine are rusted bad as well and I am going to replace them as soon as possible.
