going with a black interior is smart, that will go with about anything, do it Red and make the other half happy ( I don't like red personaly) but ended up painting my truck red....a GM color red no less..........lol
Personally I'd restore to original colors inside and out. However, I've seen a galaxie like that candy apple red with a white interior that was a knockout.
Hmmmmmm..... the "anything but white" vibe is the one I have been catching from everyone. I'm starting to feel like you guys are on to something here. Is it just because that color is so un-inspiring, or do you think it will actually look bad? The body guy says "Wimbledon White" is the color that will hide any flaws that may develop, and it will always look the cleanest, and he says it will show off the lines of the car better because your eye gets drawn to the car as opposed to the flashy paint. What are your experiences with that? Any paint jobs you regret?----thanks, Ryan
I can't say I have any regrets on paint jobs...but usually everything I've painted looked so bad before that ANYTHING would be an improvement...LOL. Is the white original??? I've never seen a white 64 galaxie before. My grandfather had 2 of these...one I totaled and almost killed myself in when I was in high school...it was sortof a yellow...the other was an aqua blue color...it's still on the farm back in TN.
Yup, originally "Corinthian White" The wimbledon white apparently has a little more beige in it, so it's not as bright white as the original. Kind of a really light cream color.

Ryan the Wimbledon white would look the cleanest because IMO it just looks dirty. I have a 1968 F-100 that is the 2 tone burgendy and Wim. whit top. It looks good with that but i think the Wim white for a solid one color on your car would look strange. My wife has a brite white mustang and if we wash it and dirve it to town and back it looks like it did before we washed it.
Yes a lighter color you would not see the imperfctions as much vs. a black or dark color you would see every single dent and ding in it. The ones that you never felt or even knew were there
I own a 62 Falcon that is Corinthian White. That was it's original color and I painted it back original. I'd call it a light cream color. To be honest, I've never liked it that much but I just can't bring myself to change from original. If you don't care about keeping the car original then I'd paint it whatever color you want. Bodywork is not as noticable on whites, however if the body is done right then it doesn't matter what color you paint it, it won't show.
I wondered if that off white color would make it always seem a little dirty. Thanks for your input so far. Cost is another issue, changing from the white will cost me quite a bit more because of all the additional surfaces that will require paint. Ohhhh the agony. I have about 3 days to make up my mind.
One thing to keep in mind is it is a huge job to paint a non-white color and not have the evidence of a repaint keep showing up: door jams, edges of trunk and hood, engine compartment, trunk interior, etc.
If you keep it stock, it is likely to look much more "clean" and nice ( as they say, unmolested ).
Ryan, paint it the factory color it came with... increases the value of the vehicle later, if you decide to sell it. If that's no biggie to you, go with red... very eye catching, looks great on these old cars, and (more importantly) your wife wants red.
I think your body guy is just trying to get out of work by painting it white. Dont cheap out, paint it the color you want.
You know my opinion of white.
He kind of is doing that. He has 2 other projects on the back burner right now, and I get the feeling that he wants to get mine outta there ASAP. He really does good work though, and he has done other vehicles of mine, AND he's a nice guy, so I feel bad about putting the screws on him.
