I have never understood why everyone calls the throttle pedal the gas pedal.
It is not connected to any type of gas lines. I call it the air pedal. It is funny trying to explain to some dork that when you push down all you are doing is opening a butterfly to allow more air through which pulls more fuel from the jets/makes the injectors squirt more fuel.
It upsets me even more when they call it a gas pedal when it is in a diesel!!!
Well its not an air pedal on a carbarated engine that is why. You have a thing called a power valve which shots gas into the engine and is mechanical in nature.
there has always been a throttle peddle on a diesel truck and a gas peddal on a gas. the only exception is on our gas tractor and atvs they have a throttle .
i am proud to say that our lawnmower has a true throttle .....thanks to kubota
This really is a dumb thread........... as tmyers was explaining, on carbed auto engines the butterflies do of course open letting in more air but it is also linked to the accelerator pump(not power valve) which squirts fuel(gas) into the venturi.
Call it what you want. Maybe you can change history.
"Gas pedal" makes much more sense to most laypeople than "air pedal" or "throttle". I suppose we could take the Mr. Burns approach and call it the velocitator. That would work well on a wide range of internal combustion powered transport devices.
LMAO!!! Come on guys, this thread is a joke. If you wanted to make a point, you failed horribly. Everyone on here knows what a gas pedal, accelerator, throttle, go pedal,etc... is. I'm surprised Duramaximizer didnt make fun of a Ford guy for making this thread(given, his being on the dark side, lol)
