239 Flathead Cooling problem!
I aint neither, Ive put it in many many vehicles with no problems. But after this and looking into it everyone Ive looked up said don't put it in a low compression engine, which a flat head is usually around 60-70psi. They say the higher octane causes fuel to burn slower and that instead of firing at the top it could delay firing at the bottom, the piston that is. So I Don t know except it was running great till i put it in and probably 5 minutes of running everything goes crazy. The carb. I rebuilt @ 8 months ago and no trash in the filters, has a new tank on it to. So the boost is all that could have caused whatever. I Don t think no more than it was run after putting it in could burn pistons or anything, but could have fouled the plugs, it does smoke a little when first cranked, has for a long time even when my dad had it. So that and the boost could have fouled out plugs. I sure hope that's all. Ive already stuck a ton of money in it. Would hate to have to tear it down because of something like that. I had no idea they cant take high octane unless their really hopped up.Anyway, I do appreciate your time. If you run into something on the internet , let me know, I'd really appreciate it. Ive found a lot but nothing definate.
Thanks again.
