RE: Ken-Bandwith
Earthlink has enough resources.
99.9% of the time, its a router between you and our host. Try a traceroute between you and FTE when the problem happens. By the sound of it, you're getting dropped packets.
The common argument that people use "I can visit other sites just fine", though it sounds logical, on the Internet its not. Your ISP may have hundreds of routes just in the area local to you. Any given site you visit could take a different route. Then factor in that there are hundreds of thousands (millions?) of routes on the Internet. One bad router and things get slow on that route.

But here is a thing or two that I have found made a difference -
First go through your drive using "Explore" (right click the start icon).
Look for any temporary internet files, cookies, and if worse comes to worse - delete anything in the history directories.
You can also go to "tools", "Internet Options" and delete stuff there.
Finally -
Run the maintenance Wizard option under accessories for your PC, make SURE that the drive is defragmented in the process!
I think if you try that last all by itself, you will see significant gains in access speed. But the I-Net provider may still be the cause of your "Bottleneck"
Good luck, man...
To do a traceroute from Windows, go to the start menu, select Run. Then type:
command
followed by the enter key. You'll then get a "DOS Prompt". Type:
tracert ford-trucks.com
You'll see a list of each router along the way with the amount of time it takes for three data packets to reach it. If you see * or a large jump from one router to the next, you've identified the problem point. Notify the provider at that point. Example, if the problem happens at router 138avbd3.internetprovider.com send an email to admin@internetprovider.com along with the line from the traceroute showing the problem. They may not even be aware of the problem OR it could be a business router that doesn't see much traffic except during business hours.
