i currently own 1 chevy and it will be the last(i haven't even had it 24 hrs) i was desperate for some transportation because neither of my fords are road worthy yet and today i bought me an 82 s10, 2.8 v6, i have been having problems with it getting hot but that's just a clogged radiator, no big deal, but when i was driving home today, at about 5 o'clock, i got this truck at about 730 it started knocking, and before i got a mile up the road where it started knockin, boom, no more knocking and tons of blue smoke coming out the exhaust. needless to say a rod(or something) went thru the block, i hadn't even had the truck 12 hours. i am gonna get another 2.8 to put in it because i'm only 16, very little money, and i need transportation desperately. I will drive it until i can find a ford ranger or some other FORD product no more stinkin gm's. God i hate chevy's, when i get the truck running i'm gonna put a sticker in the back window w/a guy peeing on a bowtie, i actually thought about putting a 302 in this truck, what gets me is this is a good lookin truck. pitiful. sorry for being so long just had to vent some steam.

You didn't even buy a real chevy?

And now you want to base your opinion on that experience...

*shakes head*

Stuff a 283 into it, cut your losses, and drive that past the jerk you bought it froms house at least twice a day so that he could see what he/she might have had if they did not have hemorhoids surrounding their neck!

Crummy engine, change it up.

Stove-bolt V-8's are not bad....

(that's why they race so much)

While I'd have to ask, how many miles does it have? How much did you pay? How well was it taken care of?

Simple truth is, trashing your engine doesn't "just happen". When you trash an engine THERE IS A REASON FOR IT, and not just "the bowtie on the grill". Personally I think the abesolute stupidest thing you could do would be putting a 302 in the S10. Thats like putting a Ferrari engine in a Mustang, that shows abesolutley no pride for owning that vehicle. No pride says that your forced to own this, your not going to take care of it, and so you get mad when it brakes down because of the oil with 20000 miles.

I think the best thing for you to do wuold be to simply sale it because it appears that you don't want or care to to own the vehicle and it would be better left in the hands of someone who cares.

I have a question for, why are your tow Fords broken down? Did one of those throw a rod? I imagine if it did you would replace it and not say a thing to anybody.

Also, don't sink so low as to drive a vehicle which is not onl bashing a brand name, but bashing itself.

Geez...that sucks. I have an '85 F250 that started out that way. Its been a great truck, however, since I rebuilt it from stem-to-stern. Regarding the GM thing....I don't know what to say...I currently have an '89 Olds Cutlass Cierra with the 2.8 V6. Hate to say it, but....its been the best vehicle I've EVER HAD (next to my '79 F100). It just turned 250K and still...it goes and goes....I wish it would just die some day...the car looks like an old blister but she just keeps going and going....and it rides nice too. If memory serves me correctly, those S-10s from the 1980s were junk from the git-go (yes...like most Chevs).

I haven't seen a 2.8L worth a crap yet. I had one in a 1989 Chevy Celebrity, when I was first started driving. Cracked the block with less than 60k original miles.

I've heard lots of people complaining about S-10's and 2.8L's.

I wouldn't dump alot of money in the truck. I'd go to a junk yard and get another 2.8L, and continue going until your Ford(s) are going.

How far away are you from getting either Ford on the road? If you blew the engine, I wouldn't sink another dime into it. If its still running... sell it for what you can and put that money and the money you were gonna spend on the replacement motor into your ford... at least thats what I would try to do.

I guess if your fords are in the middle of a restoration then there's not much you can do... but I would say if you hate that chevy truck so bad then its definitely not worth another dime of your money. Perhaps lookfor a Ford Ranger or Bronco II... two very good trucks. If your fords are close to getting on the road... then sink the money into them! Good Luck

The 2.8 gained a reputation for "leaking rear main seals" which was undeserved. The problem in the S-10 was the intake manifold gasket area, back by the distributor. It will actually allow oil to seep out and run down the back of the engine. It is cured by a generous glob of sealant to the rear of the manifold. Otherwise, the 2,8 is a good engine, though greatly outclassed by the 4.3.

maybe there was a reason for it, all i know is that i hadn't mistreated it, i didn't even have it 12 hours, the fastest i got it to was maybe 65 if the speedo is right so i didn't overrev it i don't know about the oil, i was gonna change it the next day, new plugs and wires, the odometer said it had 171,xxx miles on it and the guy told me that he had done something to the engine, i'm not sure it had to do something with the crank. my 2 fords are nowhere near completion, my 78 is just sitting cuz i have found a 4wd body w/a 400 in it and i'm gonna put my body on that frame and my 66 is almost a bare frame it had a blown up big block olds in it when i got it, y would putting a 302 in it be the stupidest thing, people put 350's in old fords all the time don't they?? i would be gettin payback if you wanted to call it that and the problem with putting 350s, 305s, etc in s10s is the firewall clearance w/the distributor, wouldn't the ford distributor being in the front be a whole lot easier?? i.e. no cutting or beating on the firewall. and about caring, i like the truck i think it is a good looking truck, i just don't like the engine.

I hate to brand bash anymore. But my s10 2.8 has 250,000 on it and has been going since 1983. I wouldn't trade my SD250 on any other brand right now because i still think that these Ford SDuty
series is the workhorse of the bunch. Maintainance is key. Some people just buy a vehicle never change oil and then throw them away.
