I originally wanted the 5.8 but i have been looking for about 3 months and have not found one i like. today i came across a ad for one with the deisel in the next town over should i get this truck or keep looking?. which engine is better for plowing? what mpg would these get? I know i have alot of questions but i dont want to make the wrong decision so i would appreciate any input you guys have.

I have heard alot of people say that you should not use deisels for plowing because they are heavier. Is this true? do any of you guys use one for plowing? if so do you have any problems?

I have read that the extra weight of the diesel plus the weight of the plow/frame is too heavy for the front end. You might get buy with a spring upgrade. The extra weight would be good for traction though. Ask that question at the Ford diesel webpage. I read about it there some time ago. Check out blades made of lexan to save weight.
I have had good luck with my 6.9 liter in my 86 2wd crew cab. It always starts and gets pretty respectable milage for a full size truck. I have never heard anyone say not to plow with a diesel I am originally from upstate NY and seems like the last time I was home I saw alot of guys running plows on 4x4 powerstrokes, 7.3's and a few 6.9's. hope this helps
