302 Rebuild Options?

What is the cost for a do it yourself rebuild on my 96 Bronco with 302 and e4od?

I also have a 6 inch suspension and 3 inch body lift with 38.5/11.50/15 and want a little more torque and horse power to compensate loss from lift. Should I go 331 stroker and what kind of cost am I looking at?

get your hands on a good. used 351 and install that. You will need a new "Y" pipe. but otherwise it's a plug-n-play deal if you get a 94-97 efi 351.

You could rebuild the 302...but why stroke it? Unless your running a carb, you'll need to look into custom performance chips to utilize the power, etc.

I hear its a nite and day difference 302 to 347. I think the block alone getting machined and ported is about $500. The stroker kit may run you $800 to $1500, depending on street and strip application used. check out horsepowertv.com, i think they did a 302 to 347. Might give you an idea what it will take. They used Accel DFI fuel injection system but you don't need a carb set-up for the 347 stoker. Overall, you can really sink some money into the project or little by little work your way up to some serious horsepower. cheers!

btw.. i think you will need to change the ECU, change into a front sump oil pan, a dipstick, a tube, pickup, flywheel, harmonic balancer etc..... the list can go long. make sure you get as complete engine with the 351

You said you want more hp and torque to offset the lift. Maybe you are trying to compensate for the larger tires? If so, then an upgrade to a set of 4.56's would probably soothe that itch your trying to scratch.

with that large of tire you need 4.88's at least period. just and fyi you are maxing out those axles as well. but like said above going to a 5.8 swap would make more sense then stroking out the 302. a 5.8 with heads, intake ,cam and complete exhaust system will outperform and cost less then a 347 or 331. the 5.8 is just ment for your rig more then the current setup you got. but i would first get the gears swapped that will get you your best gain. then worry about the motor.

IMO,
35" tires max out the stock front axle. Period. One good ditch with "twist" and pop...
As said, whith those tires, change the rear end first. But, I'm still a 302 guy..

Kem, wouldnt the fact that he has the E4OD make 4.56's a better all around choice for street and highway? It may not have the low end grunt as 4.88's, but he wouldnt be screming on the highway either. Just wondering.

the e4od is an od tranny. use the tire calculator it will tell ya. 4.56/35's 4.88/37-38
5.13's for 40's+ especially since he has an overdrive. if it was a c6 then i would agree with ya
