Clutch chatter - Again.

OK, now I know this was discussed earlier this year, but I cannot find the thread on how to get rid of the clutch chatter. Someone mentioned getting the 11" flywheel for the 302 instead of the 10" or something like that. I am ordering my clutch this weekend and I need to know if i need to get the 11" flywheel too.

Thanks again.

Clutch chatter - Again.

the flywheel usually hs both bolt patterns on it, but the 11" has a larger bolt i think.

Clutch chatter - Again.

I know someone posted a sure-fire way to prevent the clutch chatter. Please post it again. My archive searches come up empty.

Clutch chatter - Again.

When you have the flywheel out of the truck have it resurfaced at a good auto parts or machine shop. This should cost about 30-50 dollars. This will take care of any imperfections on the face of the flywheel and give the new clutch a good surface to grip to. When you pull the Clutch apart look and see if the Pilot bearing is broken. This can be the sign of a bent input shaft. I had this problem in a 78 F150 with a 3.03 3spd. Before you put the clutch into the truck wipe down the surfaces on the flywheel, clutch disc, and pressure plate with lacquer thinner. This will make good and sure that no stray grease or oils has found a way into your new clutch. Also (this is going to sound stupid but I have seen it) remove the sticker on the clutch plate that says "this side towards the flywheel". Also be sure to torque the flywheel bolts down with a torque wrench. You can warp the flywheel horsing on them. use a stagger torque pattern like you do on a wheel.I belive the torque is 65 LB/FT but I have always used 100 LB/FT with new bolts and have never had a flywheel loosen on me. Hope this is some help.
