My neighbor has a 92 F250 with the 7.3. He is complaining that when it gets hot it is almost impossible to get started. It starts well when it is cold. He said when it is at operating temperature and he shuts it off if he tries to restart it within 10 to 15 minutes it will crank OK. If it sits longer than that it won't start without a little shot of ether. It has to sit long enough for the engine to cool completely before it will start normally. A search indicated it could be air leaks and one guy had an almost identical problem and it was the injection pump. It sounds to me like the starter might be spinning it a little on the slow side too. Just wanting to run it past you for some fresh input before I tell him what it could be.

Classic sign of injector pump failure.Thats how mine started to act, cold starts, perfect, hot starts, impossible.Which will quickly lead to also needeing a new starter. If it was air leaks it would get worse the longer it sat,not better.
His starter was bad. Took it off tonight and the bushing at the end of the nose was worn pretty bad. It spins much faster with the new starter and cranks right up. His injection pump could still be on the way out, as it seems to me it should have fired up with the old starter, it wasn't that draggy. Will report back in a few days on how it is doing.

That is the symptoms that my truck is having, exactly the same, I ordered a new IP which should be in, in the next couple of days or maybe today, hope that it solves my problem.

Just wanted to let you know that I replaced my IP today and the truck started up good on the first second and third when it was hot so it solved my problem, maybe you might want to think about a new IP.

-unless you unhook the glow plug controller. A good cheap way also is a gas soaked rag over the intake with the filter off and as long as it can't get sucked in. shouldn't have to depend on either of these methods thou.
