Transfer Case
I have a 87 Ranger, 2.9L automatic transmission and recently cracked the transfer case on this thing. I can't seem to be able to get the nut off of the drive shaft that connects to the rear drive shaft. It just doesn't want to move, I have tried an impact wrench, 1/2" drive breaker bar with cheater on it. Nothing seems to work....any ideas?
I also went out the local salvage yard and pulled one off of a 84 Bronco, looked good while I was pulling and cussing. ONce I got it back to the house they don't look quite the same. There are is a connector on the top which is differant, maybe I can change those out?!?!?
The two biggest differances I saw was the output shaft yokes, which is why I need to get this one off. I also noticed, when I pulled the speed-o-meter cable they were differant colors. The Bronco II had a Blue connector and my Ranger has a Black connector. I can't be sure but I believe this may make a differance and make these two incompatable.

I was going to write down the numbers off of the cases, but forgot to get them this morning. If I remember right they both begin with the Borg Warner 1350 but than the next two numbers don't match up.
I really don't think these two are the same, but like I said, I can't seem to find any information on transfer cases. I would like to be able to overhaul the one I do get, if I could find some specs on it, or at least figure out a good way to determine if it needs to be rebuilt.
Thanks,
