hey all. i have a ticking sound coming from my engine. it sounds like it could be around my valve covers, like maybe a lifter or something. it speeds up with the engine so its somewhere in there. anyone know?
I would suggest removing the cover for a looksee, recently a member of a diesel site found the pushrod worn right through the valve lever, also the valve lever posts will wear over time and slack in the rocker systems will cause a tick too.........openerup.
EDIT....do you get any loud WOOF WOOF coming back through the intake with the aircleaner off or a popping out the exhaust. OOOPPPSS guest you can't hear the intake due to turbo........
Edit......... failing injectors can tick too, get a cheepo mechanics stethescope (harbour frt) and listen around
is it something i can fix myself or do i need to go to a mechanic. i know my way around an engine a little. had to rebuild a gasser one time. long time ago, but it ran afterwards. do i just need to tighten somethin up or what. thanx for the info.
Depending on the severity of the tick and where you locate it exactly would allow members here to advise you better if your mechanical skills can repair it.
Email me if you need R&R info for any items, but the turbo I have nothing on sorry.
not too long ago I had a real bad tick that was very loud on and off. Turned out to be chunks of clutch spring getting stuck in the dust cover and hitting the flywheel.
Ive heard that bad injectors will tick, just take em out and have em tested or replace em all for $200.
well folks, it was a rocker. and i almost dropped a valve. the mechanic said i probably had 5 miles left and then boom, i need a new engine. glad i took it to someone than knows more than me.
