temp gauge broken?
My 75 f-100 w/390 4bbl started running real hot. Today I replaced thermostat and water pump. Gauge says it is about to overheat. But when the antifreeze flows through the radiator, I can put my finger in to the antifreeze and leave it there with no problems. Is this the gauge? Its the original. If it is, how down I put in an aftermarket gauge? The temp sensor is on the intake manifold, and the hole is to small to fit a mechanical guage sensor in it?

Checking the gauge and sender is stupid simple. With the key on find the temp sender, right next to the thermostat housing. Ground the single terminal and with the ground on it the gauge should read full hot, remove the ground. Now disconnect the regular wire to the sender and it should read full cold. This tells you the gauge is good and change the sender. If the gauge test fails you have a gauge or wiring problem.
