U joint -question about the grease fitting
I bought 2 new u-joints for my 98 f150 driveshaft-both joints are exactly the same. I had always heard the grease fitting is supposed to face the shaft-WHY? I decided to asked this at a machine shop and was told its because of how they are designed,it would pull itself apart if facing the wrong way. WELL,being they are both exactly the same-if they BOTH face the shaft,1 would be facing the wrong way.
SO why do they say the grease fitting faces the shaft?

If the grease fitting faces the shaft you will be able to get to it to grease it.
I prefer the nongreasable Brute Force joints. I've never had a problem with one and they seem to last as long as the OE joints.
