I have a 84 f150 4x4 with a 351m. i have had some recent engine problems and have, and still looking to have it rebuilt, but i was wondering what kinda of trouble it would be to simply replace the 351M with a stock 460? the truck i have has, i believe, a dana 44 ifs up front and a ford 8.8" in the rear. the trans is a granny four. any help or advice on this subject would be greatly apprecated.
thanks
lr
IF you are looking at installing a 460, then you are going to need a set of motormounts from a 460 truck of the same style (80-86). Since you already have a 351m, you should be fine with the radiator, and the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same. However, I am told that in order to drop a 460 in my 82 with a 400, I am going to need a spacer plate (about a 1/4") between the bellhousing and block. This is to keep the clutch from hitting the bellhousing. With the spacer for the tranny, and the motormounts, the engine swap should be simple.
The 44 will handle the 460 if you are not too hard on it, and the 8.8 should handle it as well, just take it easy on it.

Proud enough to stack hay, crazy enough to eat it.
look up a company called L+L products in a 4wd magazine or maybe on the web. their specialty is swapping 429/460's into f series trucks. they also do 302's into ranger/bronco2.
they are in texas.
