I was looking to install an ARB locker in the rear of my 73 F250 with dana 60. I found out that I had a trac-loc diff with 16 spline axles. If I were to go with ARB I would need to get 30 spline axles. Are the 16 spline axles stronger or weaker than 30 spline? I have not decided if it would be worth the change.
A 16 spline axle anything isn't worth the metal its made out of, even if it is a trac loc (garenteed to be wore out to is its got any use on it), so i would stay with the axle you have now, unless you can find a dana 70 or something for cheap.
I have the 16 spline with trac-loc. Would the dana 70 be best alternative or should I just look for dana 60? I did some searching and found someone stating you could not install 35 spline axles in dana 60 that had 16 spline. Is this true? The guy that would do the work for me was going to look for some 30 spline axles. I don't know if this would be a waist of my money still. Should I just get the dana 70 and be done with it? I don't want to spend money I don't need to. I am already over budget on this project.
Opps, i read it wronf i thought you said you had a 30 spline open and could get a 16spline with trac loc, my bad. But yeah i would just find a 70, it isn't going to ccost you anything more than a 60, or even converting a 16 spline to 35 (which the 70 is), you could also go to a 10.25" ford axle as well, but you would have to move the perches on it thoug, but its around the same strenght as the dana 70, and just as cheap too.
