Tips for removing SD bed

I'm looking to remove the bed on the 00 SD SC shortbed and unfortunately dont have access to a garage, lift or a lot of help. I'm thingking about using a sizable tree limb to through a cable over, and attach a cable puller and tow straps to the factory tie downs, remove the bolts and lift it up, drive the truck out from under it and lower it onto jack stands. Any one know what the 6ft bed might weigh? Any one else do anything like this or am I setting my self up for an appearance on Americas funniest videos?

My suggestion is....set up a camera and tripod. You never know, it might be worth the $10K on AFV.

Remove the 6 bed bolts, wiring harnesses for hte rear taillights, take off hte tailgate, and take off hte fuel filler nozzles. 2 guys can lift the bed off at this point. It is lighter than you think, and with the tailgate off, it is very easily balanced. If you cant get a friend to help, then yes, 4 equal length ropes from each corner, tied to a single rope from above, should lift the bed off no problem. I dont know the exact weight, but a friend and I lifted it off no problem at all.

I ended up drilling all but 1 bolt out on my 01, I got fed up after snapping 5 or 6 torx bits off.

I had to grind my bolts off. The long bed was heavy but not too bad. 4 guys and its a breeze. Don't forget the fuel hose.

Yea, I drilled 4 of my 6 out. With a sharp bit and some cutting oil a good drill will blow right through those heads in no time.

If I remember correctly, you have to drill at least half the bolt out, due to the shank of the bolt being thicker at the head.

Texascadillac42 is correct - 2 guys can lift off the bed one the attachments and filler neck is disconnected. I did an 02 SB this way. No problems.

My bolts unscrewed just fine when they line-x the bed, buy my dads 94 we removed all but one, and had to use a grinder to remove the last one. Maybe you need better torx bits, or maybe they were rusted in.
