Just wondering what people think here, but I was thinking of putting a removable flag pole w/ U.S. flag in the back of my bronco while the top is off. Does anybody have any ideas on how I would do this. Was maybe thinking of bolting a mount in the middle of the bed and just support the top of the pole with steel cable to the back of the cab. I'm open to suggestions.
Are you set on putting it IN your bronco? My only thought was that if youre rear bumper has a centrally mounted hole, you could run the pipe to there, and add some sort of trussing off of the top of your tailgate(or cable like you mentioned). You might even wanna check to see if someone makes an adapter for a hitch... Just an idea
If you have a roll bar, use hose clamps to clamp the flag pole to the roll bar. That's what I did when I'd run with the top off. American on one side, Confederate on the other.
Gotta tell ya'll, I kinda am set on having it in the bronco.
Anyways, does anyone know where I can find an american flag durable enough to hande speeds, say up to 40-45, maybe even 50? Without shredding?
They all shred, but the heavy canvas ones last the longest.
There is a truck around town with a flag. pole is mounted in the bed with a cable from the top end of the pole to the bed 3' in front of the mount. Pole is tilted about 5 degrees. Looks like a 6x6" piece of flat steel with a 10 " x 1" pipe welded to it. four bolts in the corners into the bed. eyebolt for the cable. Cable will need to take all of the drag created by the flag.
And he hauls @$$ all over town.
I have been thinking of painting my Bronco to look like a flag is laying over it.
Guys, given current events we are many of us eager to show support of our armed forces and/or country (not a political slant just a statement of the obvious). I recently heard a news report discussing the Fed's crack-down on the "proper and legal flying of "Old Glory". I recently purchased a flag for the front porch and included with it was an exerpt from the federal law regauarding the flying of the flag. May want to keep this in mind when thinking up creative ways to fly the flag as an everyday symbol on your rig.
"...when the flag is to be flown from an automobile, it must be rigidly afixed to a suitable mast on the right hand fender or radiator cap. It may not be draped across the vehicle or utilized in any decorative fashion. The blue field shall always be flown towards the top left with the red and white to fly freely where ever possible...."
It goes on to tell about hanging it from the ceiling and the legal methods should mounting it on a mast be impractical or impossible. But the paragraph above is the only method of "legally" flying the flag from a car or truck. (Obviously an old section of the law considering radiator caps haven't been
outside the bonnet {hood} in nearly 75 years). Exceptions ARE often made for parades and holiday celebrations. Just figured I'd add that since I just read it the other day.
