i like my six because all i need to do to clime in a 2 wd is granny it man i can climb like know other and i love it im trying to make my 87 a baja truck man!
Now that I finallly gave mine a proper tune up and timed it right. She gives me closer to 18-19 mpg. A far cry from the 14-16 I got before. I still can't wait to turf the stock log manifolds and replace the Yf-a carb. Would putting on EFI manifolds and some type of 2 bbl make much more of a difference regarding power and fuel milage ?.
Don't get me wrong, I love my six too. I was pulling rather large, old shruberies out today, and all but 1 took more than idle. Just dropped it in gear, and it would idle forward and popped them right out
To get back on track just a bit, my truck has a problem running rich, that I have never figured out. You can smell it at idle It smells like its a carb thats outta tune. That, and the fact that I'm not afraid to pull away at stop lights

My milage isn't half bad. Of course, I have a unibarrel carb, which doesn't suck much gas. I can drive my truck to work every day for a week, (which is a fair distance each day) and still only burn 1/4 of a tank. I don't run my truck hard until I take it off road, either.

I installed a 350 cfm Holley 2bbl on a Clifford adapter plate with EFI manifolds, and an MSD Blaster coil. It made a huge difference in power and mileage. My mileage nearly doubled, and horsepower and torque went way up too. It used to drop out of the power band around 3000 rpms, now it pulls strong up to 4500 rpms! I can spin both tires on dry pavement with a locker, 3.08 gears, and 31 inch tires. Now that I have the dual manifolds I plan to install 2.25 duals with no cats. I have a brand new set of 4.10 gears and a Dana/Spicer Trak Lok for the front. Yes my mileage will suffer, but it's my toy so it doesn't matter.
i've got a '91 shortbed with about 135000 miles on it. even when i do keep my foot out of it, i've never been able to get better than 17 mpg. and that was in the summer. in the winter i usually run about 12 and average is around 13 or 14. its starting to **** me off when i hear all you people telling me about getting 18-20 on average. i'm open to suggestions.
