My 300 in my '84 Bronco has no power what so ever. It just doesn't have any pick up and go. It's extremly slow at picking up speed, slower at pickin up speed then my 300 in my truck. It loses so much speed goin up the smallest of hills. Ill have it in 2nd gear and it will have alittle go, shift into 3rd and it will die al together. Anything i can do to give it some boost?
What condition is your ignition in? I would check plugs, wires, cap, ect. Also check your timing and make sure your carb is tuned properly.
If the PO used it for towing the clutch may be slipping or burnt. Anyone of these things(plus incorrect gears) will make pi$$ poor performance.
Yes the clutch needs replaced i know that, the plugs and wires i changed but i need to look at the cap and rotor, I'm gonnin to work on tunin the carb tonight. What should it idle at?, i"m gonna get my freind to check the timin this weekend. It idles alittle rough and it will stall when u start it up unless u give it some gas for alittle then it will run fine. and also that annoyin whistnin noise from somewhere around the carb area and the really bad "run on" condition.. I posted about them before
The whistle is probably some sort of vaccum leak which could lead to all kindsa things including your truck being sluggish and tough to keep running when its cool . Be sure to check your vaccum for leaks.do you run cats on it?does it seem to be running rich all the sudden? If so check to make sure your cat isn't clogging up you will usually notice a lot of heat in that situation though. i'd probably check your carb and timeing and ignition as the others said first though.
yea it seems like the engine runs rather hot right after it starts but the temp gauge says its on the lower side of normal. the whistle noise doesn't start untill the engine gets alittle warm
