I previously posted that my clutch master cylinder was binding, but finally took it in to my mechanic who determined the throwout bearing is binding. He applied lubricant and it works better but still worsens after driving--this is freeway driving with little if any clutch use so the rotating shaft is apparently causing it to heat up and bind. When cold is seems fine. The binding shows up in a jerky pedal release. Anyway we probably will replace it, if Ford won't (Ford dealer put it on 15,000 miles and 9 months ago under used truck warranty to replace leaking slave cylinder). I understand the slave and throwout go together as a unit.
The T/O bearing & slave valve are together . The only way I can see it binding is because it slides on a plastic sleave . That sleave is supposed to be lubricated when you install a new Slave valve ,TO Bearing . Its possible it was never lubricated when Ford installed the new parts ? You have to be careful not to over do it with the lubricant because of the clutch disc dust . If it was only installed 9 months ago then it should still be ok . If its defective Ford has a part warranty I beleive depending on the part ...some have a 1 yr warranty , so check with them before any work is performed by someone else .
I finally got it fixed. It was the slave cylinder. There was a washer missing that holds the sleeve straight so the sleeve was wobbling on the shaft when the clutch was applied. Now the clutch is perfectly smooth.
