Ok Ive got a 99 psd i was getting really rotten millage... like 13 on the highway. so i put in a programmer (actually it was a fluke my buddy owns a shop and needed to test one out in another truck) which put me up to 17-17.5. i just put in an intake tube and filter (havent run it yet). Im probably going to order 5" exhaust for it on monday too. a guy my buddy knows installed the same setup w/ exhaust and all on a truck the same as mine (gears and all) and he's up to 23 mpg.
once i do this stuff what else can i do to it... well other then saving pennies for when the tranny blows up.
i am really happy with the power im getting with the programmer.... it always felt like the truck was work'n real hard and not going anywhere boy its goin somewhere now!

Haha just what i needed after a long day at work! Well first off if you don't want to melt your pisotns allong with the tranny then i suggest getting some gauges... pyro, trans temp, and boost.. should be on there before any programer is used... A new intake and exhaust will help w/ EGT's as well as add some ponnies in conjunction with the programmer... so i say before you do anything else get some gauges!!
Try this web page and you may get some good ideas. A lot of it is for 94-97 but some of it will apply to you too. Lots of people think that a chip/tuner will only hurt mileage but it's usually the fact that it's so much fun the pedal is always on the floor. It's good to know that you got that big of an improvement.
One thing that comes to mind is using synthetic oils in what ever you can afford to.
I'm guessing that you may have seen this here before but gauges are always recommended as the first part of any upgrades for power. If nothing else get a pyrometer so you don't melt your motor.
You are wise to be planning for a tranny if you are going to be modding for power. I hope you never need to buy one but the good ones are the ony ones that will hold up to the power your engine can make.
Good luck with it and don't forget....gauges.
sorry ment other then guages.... was looking specificly at power gains. I was planning on leaving the truck stock because i have a tendancy to go overboard. But after testing that programmer and seeing the mpg difference im going all the way. I have guages and an a pillar already on the way, the intake showed up today and 5" exhaust should be here on monday.
i asked the question WHATS NEXT because i dont have ALOT of experience with non gas'rs. im more into offroad vehicles and sbc's.

its set wide open ill go pull the model number off of it. to be honest my buddy put it in while i was eating lunch at his shop to test it and after the test drive i didnt let him take it out he threw the programmer in the console. ill check tonight.
Kwik. you have 4.88!!!!!!! you can pull down a house with those things they must slam you in seat in a launch.
Diesel Rod
Heheh, yes I can pull down a house with ease, but the truck weighs 9500lb dry and no power mods, so it is slow on the takeoff. It's coming but nothing radical. I need this truck to last a long time.

Go propane injection! Helps a little on mileage and can give you huge hp gains(100+ rwhp with the right setup and chip). We're testing different setups now, but Powershot 2000 is a good system with a lot of longevity. Quadzilla runs it and seems to be extremely happy. Search for propane on this forum, you'll find plenty on info.
