Brakes scrubbing

Scrubbing brakes means the brake pads need to be replaced right? They just started last night, so how many miles you think I have before being in danger of messing up the calipers? Also, I have some noisy u joints and stuff, could the scrubbing actually just be other stuff beng accentuated from the force of stopping?

I have to decide wheter to drive the truck, with possibly bad brakes, or my mom,s honda that needs wheel bearings...

thanks!

You mean grinding? If you let it grind for more than a few miles, you'll be replacing rotors. I would drive it to further than you absolutely need to. It's unsafe to drive it in that condition anyway - I've seen the piston fall right out of the caliper because the rotor gets too thin and the caliper compresses too far.

Guess what happens when the piston falls out?

No brakes.

Is it worth it?

By scrubbing, I am going to assume you mean grinding or a scraping noise. I had that happen to me in my 90' F150. The front pads wore completely down and the metal plates that held the pad material was being used to stop the truck. The metal plates are terrible for the rotors. Mine were beyond the point that they could be resurfaced, had to get new. I would check them out ASAP and repair as needed. Brakes are one system I do not mess around with. If they need fixin, they get it promptly. Good luck to ya, and let us know how it goes.
